Women's Basketball Stopped Short by Stanislaus State

TURLOCK, Calif. - The California State University San Bernarndino women's basketball team suffered a 74-63 defeat at the hands of Stanislaus State Saturday afternoon in California Collegiate Athletic Association action at the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.

With the defeat, the Yotes fall to 7-9 overall on the season and 5-6 in the CCAA.

Stanislaus State came out of the gate fast, finishing the first quarter with a 19-13 lead. Jaida Jackson (Moreno Valley, Calif.) and Destiny Jackson (Hayward, Calif.) each scored four points in the opening period for the Yotes.

San Bernardino came to live in the second quarter, outscoring the hosts 21-4 to take a 34-23 lead into the locker room. Mia Dufresne (Torrance, Calif.) went off for eight points in the quarter to lead all players.

Stanislaus drew back into the game in the third by outscoring San Bernardino 23-14. Senior Deja Blue (Moreno Valley, Calif.) led the Coyotes with five points off the bench in the quarter.

The Warriors pulled away with a 28-point outburst in the fourth quarter to seal the conference victory. Samantha Henley (Ventura, Calif.) hit a pair of fourth quarter threes for the Yotes to lead the way with six points, but it was not enough to close out a win.

Destiny Jackson finished the contest as San Bernarndino's leading scorer, picking up 14 points. Dufresne and Jaida Jackson each had 12, while Henley poured in 10.

The Yotes were heavily outrebounded, with the Warriors nabbing 51 boards to San Bernardino's 30. The Coyotes shot 43.3 percent (26-of-60) from the floor, compared to 35.7 percent (20-of-56) for the Warriors. The Yotes, however, only knocked down three of their 12 (25 percent) three-point attempts, while Stanislaus went 7-of-14 (50 percent) from distance.

Next up for the Yotes, they will return home to take on Cal State LA on Thursday evening inside Coussoulis Arena. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
