SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The CSUSB women's soccer team fell to Westmont on Saturday afternoon by a score of 1-0. The Yotes now hold a 1-1-0 record to start the season.
Neither team dominated play in the first half, with both teams trading possessions throughout the first 45 minutes. A chance for the Yotes came in the 2nd minute of the game when
Kaylen Gonzalez was able to blaze past the Westmont defense, but resulted in a save by the Warrior's keeper Ellie Ludwig.
At half, the score remained a 0-0 draw.
Westmont took a late lead with a goal in the 80th minute of the game. The Yotes refused to go down without a fight, finding late opportunities to even the score. The Yotes almost tapped a goal across the line off a corner kick in the 81st minute, but a foul was called thwarting the attack.
In the 88th minute,
Rosalie Hawkins collected a ball outside the 18-yard box and took a shot that hit the woodwork, missing the would-be tying goal by mere inches. The comeback fell short, however, as the game would conclude with a final score of 1-0, giving Westmont their first win at the NCAA Division II level.
