LA MIRADA, Calif. – The Yotes captain
Victor Chavez scored his first career goal in a CSUSB uniform on Saturday night, appropriately sealing the victory to give the Yotes their second win of the season. With the win, CSUSB remains undefeated at 2-0-0 on the season.
Â
The Yotes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 19
th minute of the game on a goal by
Brian Castillo, his first of the season.
Jonathan Mayen earned the assist, his second consecutive game doing so. Â
Â
Not long after the start of the second half, the Eagles tied up the game at 1-1 in the 53
rd minute. The Yotes defense would keep the tie in place for the next 30 minutes of play, with Biola outshooting CSUSB six to three during that stretch.
Â
With just five minutes left in the game, a foul was called on Biola inside the 18-yard box, setting up a penalty kick for CSUSB. Chavez, who missed the entire 2022 season with an injury, found the back left corner of the net to seal the 2-1 victory.
Goalkeeper
Aiden Hanes played all 90 minutes in net, making two saves while allowing the lone goal.

The Yotes will head to Colorado next week as they take on both Regis and Colorado School of Mines. CSUSB faced both teams at the beginning of last season, going 1-0-1 in those two games. The Orediggers were nationally ranked in this year's preseason Top 25, sitting at #21.
