SAN BERNARDINO, CA – If you want to watch a five-set thriller, The Den is where you need to be. With a tournament streak to uphold, both the Yotes and the Roadrunners looked to finish the tournament weekend with a perfect 4-0 record.
In what was arguably the slowest start for the Yotes in the entire tournament, they allowed the Roadrunners to push the 21-16 lead. An ace and a couple of kills put the Yotes right back in the race for the first set with a tie at 21. A few Roadrunners error letter and a stuff block by
Taryn King gave the Yotes set point and a kill from freshman OH
Kacie Pedersen closed it out.
The Roadrunners held the Yotes accountable through the entire set and took the second 25-16 while keeping the Yotes below a .300 hitting percentage. Both squads went point-for-point through the first half of the third and it was near impossible to get anything to hit the floor. The Yotes faced a seasoned block which proved to be an obstacle they would have to face going into the fourth.
These teams were no strangers to extra sets in this tournament. The Yotes earned the lead with a block, a kill and an ace to throw the Roadrunners off their game. Determined to keep their streak alive, the Roadrunners battled back but the offense of the Yotes was too strong willed.
Jenna Patton's ace would force a fifth set for all the glory.
The Yotes put their foot on the gas and never let up, quickly forcing a trifecta of hitting errors by the Roadrunners. It was a late-night block party for King and setter
Marlee Nunley as they came up with two clutch blocks in go-time. It only made sense for Sheridan to get the game-winning point to solidify the 4-0 tournament record for the Yotes.
While
Trinity Sheridan led the team in kills (20), Patton recorded the highest hitting percentage across both teams with a .474. On the offensive end,
Shira Lahav had 26 digs.
