FRESNO, CA – The CSUSB women's soccer team (1-0-0) opened the 2023 season with a win over the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (0-0-1) on Thursday night by a score of 6-0 at Ramirez Field.

The Yotes' offense dominated right from the start, with junior
Kayla Bergin finding the back of the net in the 5
th minute of the game and scoring the first goal of the season. Though the Sunbird defense made a valiant effort, the Yotes could not be stopped, with
Natha Losada Lucumi scoring the second goal of the game in the 26
th minute.

CSUSB added two more goals in the first half, one in the 35
th minute by
Unieque Solis and another two minutes later when
Yvette Ochoa netted a ball into to the top right corner in the 37
th minute, taking a 4-0 lead into half.Â

After halftime, the Sunbirds made defensive adjustments, but the Yotes were able to break through once again with
Alyssa Rubio's 67
th minute goal. In the 80
th minute,
Kat Walker floated in a free kick to the back post, for
Sofia Melgoza to finish for their sixth and final goal of the game.

Leila Peregrina kept the Sunbirds scoreless by coming up with three saves, including two crucial saves in the second half.
