SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB women's soccer team was picked ninth in the CCAA preseason poll that came out on Wednesday. The Yotes are coming off a 7-6-4 (.529) season in 2022, their first winning season since 2016.
After starting the year 4-2-0 in non-conference play, they went 3-4-4 against tough CCAA competition. "We know how difficult the CCAA is every year," said head coach
Mark Peters, "but we believe we have the opportunity to compete at the top end of the conference this year." To view the full CCAA preseason release, click

This coming season, the Yotes will be led by captains
Sam Smith and
Katherine Walker, as well as last year's leading scorer
Nathaly Losada Lucumi.
"We are excited about this season! We return with an experienced core group of players and have added exciting additions to the team," said Peters. "Captains Samantha Smith and
Katherine Walker provide a strong presence in the heart of our defensive unit.
Nathaly Losada Lucumi and
Kaylen Gonzalez are two senior attackers that are expected to generate goals and assists for us."
When speaking about the newcomers on the team, Peters added, "Add to that the additions of CCCAA All-American
Kayla Bergin from Chaffey College, along with Southwestern College forward
Ilusion Duron and this team should have plenty of firepower. One of the biggest concerns about this season was always going to be how we dealt with the loss of 2022/23 All-Conference goalkeeper
Carly Luna, but
Leila Peregrina from Mt. SAC has come in and had a brilliant start to preseason."
CSUSB women's soccer opens the season on Thursday, August 31
st, on the road at Fresno Pacific. They will host Westmont College on Saturday, September 2
