HAYWARD, Calif. – The Yotes began their series against the Cal State East Bay Pioneers with another shutout show from
Natalie Carlos. These teams are at an even 22-22 since their first meeting in 2010, and the Yotes are 10-8 at home.
Game 1: CSUSB 6, Pioneers 0
The Yotes got off to a s low start, leaving two on base in the first and three quick outs in the second.
Alyssa Rodriguez reached first base on a bunt and came in to score after a double from
Tereise Tosi. This would be the only point on the board for either team until the sixth inning.
Kyla Lowman would come in to pinch run for Tosi who got on base with a single to left field. On a 1-2 count,
Kaylee Williamson hit her first homerun of the season to give the Yotes a 3-1 lead.
Shannon Galliano stepped up to the plate as a pinch-hitter and reached base on a fielding error.
Hayden Greene made contact on the first pitch she saw, singling to right field. Tosi would close out her game going 3-4 at the plate with a single to right field to bring Galliano in to score. The sophomore stole second on an error by the catcher. In a failed pickoff attempt, Greene scored on her feet and Tosi advanced to third. Williamson singled on a 2-2 count and earned an RBI as Tosi crossed home plate.
Natalie Carlos pitched her second full-shutout game, her last one coming just last week against the Warriors. She had two strikeouts and two walks in her 26 faced batters to bring her record to 3-1.
Game 2: CSUSB 5, Pioneers 7
Tosi and Galliano put the Yotes on the board early with two runs in the first.
Bailey Wallace earned two RBI on a single to left field to bring them in but was caught stealing to end the inning. The Pioneers would tie up the game after a sac fly followed by a triple brought two runners across home plate. They would hold the Yotes scoreless until the third inning, while they tacked on five additional runs in the bottom of the second.
The Yotes fought back. Galliano scored on a wild pitch in the top of the third, but the team would leave three runners on base before reaching the seventh.
Alexis Aguado came in to pitch hit and laid down a single to right field. Aguado advanced to second on a passed ball and came in to score on a single from Galliano. Tosi was walked on a four-ball series which brought in pinch runner Lowman and Williamson stepped up to the plate. On a two-out rally, Williamson earned another RBI with a right field single to bring Galliano in to score and bring the Yotes within two.
The Pioneers loaded the bases when
Alyssa Martinez was hit by a pitch, but a pop up on a full count would strand three and end the game.
