Another 2-2 Series Split To Finish NorCal Road Trip

HAYWARD, Calif. – After a loss yesterday afternoon, the Yotes looked to bounce back and finish the series strong to leave Hayward with another pair of wins.

Game 1: CSUSB 2, Pioneers 1

East Bay scored first on a double to right center. They would hold the lead until the top of the third where the Pioneers faced a locked in Yotes offense. Ariana Chavarria started off the inning with a single to shortstop. Senior Veronica Garza reached first on what should've been a sac bunt and advanced to second on an error by the Pioneers first baseman. Alexis Aguado singled up the middle to earn herself an RBI as Chavarria came home to tie the game.

Alyssa Martinez reached base in the fourth with a single down the right field line and gave the Yotes their second point and the 2-1 lead when she crossed home plate on a left field double by Chavarria. Lights out defense and pitching held both teams at their respective scores.

Natalie Carlos pitched through three innings and faced 14 batters. The win would be given to Samantha Vargas (9-7) who finished with one strikeout and one hit in her 14 batters. The Yotes recorded 21 putouts in this win. Tereise Tosi added one to her season total, coming off of a 21-putout performance on Friday. She leads the team with a monster 156 putouts on the season. Veronica Garza was responsible for three of those putouts, putting the senior at 79.

Game 2: CSUSB 4, Pioneers 7

Galliano and Aguado came across home plate to put the Yotes up 2-0. It wasn't long, though, before the Pioneers would answer with three points of their own on a homerun. Shaylee Zaitz responded with a power hit of her own, putting down a well-hit ball to left field to earn an RBI and bring Chavarria in to score.

The Pioneers took the lead and put their fourth run on the board on a Yotes error. They would score three more points before the Yotes would attempt to rally in the seventh just like they had in their Friday loss. Aguado laid down a bunt to give herself a single, and would round all the bases on a throwing error, coming in to score. She would post the last run for the Yotes as they left one person stranded on base.
