SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB baseball team fell to San Francisco State on Friday afternoon, losing by a score of 7-16. With their first loss at home, the No. 4 Yotes fall to 17-3 on the season and 12-1 at home.
This is just the second time the Yotes' pitching staff has allowed double-digit runs this season, the other time coming in a 11-10 win over Cal State San Marcos. All five pitchers for CSUSB gave up at least one earned run, while the team struck out just three Gator batters.
Despite a tough first inning in which CSUSB gave up four runs, the offense quickly responded. Two hits and two errors allowed the Yotes to score two runs in the first. Then in the third,
Giovanni Del Negro hit a two-run blast to left field, his sixth of the season, to tie the game up at 4-4. Del Negro, who had just been named CCAA Player of the Week, finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and 3 RBI.
The Gators bats were relentless, however, as they immediately put up six more runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a commanding lead. Another crooked number in the seventh put the game well out of reach, leading SFSU to a 16-7 victory in the series opener.
