TURLOCK, Calif. – The Yotes currently sit fourth in the conference with a 7-7 conference record. After taking two games off the nationally ranked Seawolves last weekend, they added two more wins to today with one shutout and one near-shutout to open the series against the Warriors. Both
Samantha Vargas and
Natalie Carlos were dialed in in the circle. Between both games, Vargas and Carlos stranded eight Warriors on base, racked up 10 strikeouts and only allowed one run.
Game 1: CSUSB 4, Stanislaus 0
Samantha Vargas continues to be a threat in the circle. She put up seven strikeouts with five batters going down swinging. The junior pitched her fourth shutout of the season and only allowed one hit in the full seven innings. With this win, Vargas is now tied for second in the CCAA with eight wins, ranks second in batters struck out (56), and is first in innings pitched (91).
A solo homer to left field by
Tereise Tosi put the Yotes up 1-0 in the first inning and was the first of two hits for the sophomore. With two outs in the second,
Veronica Garza singled to left center field on the first pitch she saw to get on base. She would advance to scoring position on a walk to put
Alexis Aguado on base.
Hayden Greene, who's recorded at least one hit in the last nine of ten games, hit a triple to right center to bring both runners in to score.
It wasn't long before the Yotes put another point on the board. Heads-up base running by Tosi put her on third base. A groundout by
Bailey Wallace allowed Tosi to come across home plate and give the Yotes their final point of the game.
Game 2: CSUSB 3, Stanislaus 1
Hayden Greene scored first for the Yotes. She advanced from first to third on a bunt by
Alyssa Rodriguez and was waived home by the rest of the Yotes after a wild throw to third base. A Tosi single brought Rodriguez home to put up a score of 2-0.
The Yotes continued to put on a show offensively.
Ariana Chavarria and
Brooke Brazill both got on base first in the top of the fourth via walks. Greene stepped up to the plate and would hit a single to second base, but on an error, she was able to advance to second and bring Chavarria in to score.
Natalie Carlos was in the circle for the Yotes for a full her first full game of the season. She threw a shutout through five innings and added another win to her record.
