IRVINE, Calif. – The Yotes continued opening weekend play at the Concordia Kickoff Classic on Saturday. They dropped both games on Saturday, each of their opponents winning by one run but finished with a win on Sunday.
Game 1: CSUSB 1, WWU 2
Samantha Vargas was on the mound to start the day, pitching 5.1 innings. Coming off a strong a game the previous night against CUI, she looked to continue that against the Western Washington Vikings. The junior only allowed one run on seven hits.
Tereise Tosi struck first in the game, tripling down the right field line to bring in
Alexis Aguado. Both teams remained scoreless until the fifth innings where the Vikings tied up the game. With two outs in the top of the seventh, the Vikings hit a double down the left field line to bring in the game-winning run.
Game 2: CSUSB 0, NNU 1
The Yotes faced a tough Nighthawks team for their second game of the day. Northwest Nazarene scored in the third inning, but the Yotes rallied in the sixth. Junior outfielder
Hayden Greene reached first base due to a fielding error by the Nighthawks but was left stranded.
This loss gave the Nighthawks their first win of the season.

Hayden Greene. Vargas was a force on the mound. She pitched all seven innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits. The Yotes extended their lead in the third with Aguado and
