SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Yotes got a win on their home court Thursday night against the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay. In the first quarter alone, we saw six different Yotes put up points. They shot 66% from the free throw line and recorded five steals to put them up early.
A nine-point scoring run to start the second quarter would put the Yotes up 19-10. The fast pace of the game continued throughout the second quarter as both teams refused to let up on each other. The Yotes capitalized on the Otters' errors, scoring 21 points off turnovers in the first half.
Tatianna Russell knocked down a trey in the final minute of the half to give the Yotes a 17-point lead, their largest of the night.
The Otters charged back, outscoring the Yotes 19-12 and cutting the lead down to single digits by the end of the third. Offensively, the Yotes couldn't be stopped as they closed out the game. They shot 85% from the free throw line, giving the team a new season high of .389. Their .510 percentage from the field is their second highest of the season. The Yotes played hard into the final moments of the game and earned every bit of their 80-68 win.
Destiny Jackson led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds, making this her sixth straight game in which she's scored in double-digits.
Deja Blue and
Jaida Jackson finished with 10 points a piece and seven rebounds between the two of them.
Samantha Henley had a night of season-highs. The redshirt sophomore had thirteen points, nine points beyond the arc and four steals helped the Yotes come out on top.
