FIVE MEN’S SOCCER PLAYERS NAMED ALL-CCAA HONORABLE MENTION

Five Cal State San Bernardino men’s soccer players, including one senior, were voted to the 2023 All-CCAA conference team as honorable mentions.

Five Cal State San Bernardino men's soccer players, including one senior, were voted to the 2023 All-CCAA conference team as honorable mentions.

This despite the fact the Yotes improved their team record from 2022 and earned a berth in the CCAA conference tournament. No Yotes were on the All-CCAA first and second teams.

CSUSB finished the season at .500 overall at 5-5-7 and made the post-season conference tournament after tying for sixth-place, beating out Sonoma State because the Yotes won the conference tie-breaker with their win over the Seawolves early in the season.

Named to the CCAA honorable mention list for the second time in three seasons was Nicklaus Sullivan, a junior forward from Yuma, Ariz., a transfer from Park University in Gilbert, AZ. Sullivan scored five goals and five assists for 15 points to lead the Yotes while playing 1,365 minutes. Three of his goals were match-winners.

Sullivan, also made the CCAA honorable mention list in 2022 when he scored four goals and four assists in 1,125 minutes on the pitch. In his two seasons at CSUSB Sullivan now has nine goals and nine assists for 27 points and six match-winning goals.

Also earning honorable mention honors were:
  • Jonathan Mayen, a senior midfielder from Upland via Newport Harbor High School, Yavapai Community College and University of Illinois, Chicago, who scored three goals  and assisted on five others for 11 points in 987 minutes.
  • Tony Negrete, a junior midfielder from Hawaiian Gardens via Cerritos Community College, who notched five goals for 10 points. Two of his goals were match-winners.
  • Travis Babineau, a sophomore defender from Santa Barbara, who scored one goal and added one assist in 1,570 minutes of play. He trained with the Los Angeles Galaxy Academy from 2019 to 2022.
  • Reece Kilpin, a sophomore midfielder from Sydney, Australia who transferred from Newberry College in South Carolina, played in 17 matches and had seven shots on goal in 1,516 minutes.
Oliver Diaz of Cal State Los Angeles was voted the CCAA Player of the Year and the CCAA Midfielder of the Year. CSULA won the regular season at 10-1 and will be in the semifinals of the conference tournament on Friday at Cal Poly Humboldt.
