SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The CSUSB women's soccer team delivered a masterclass performance in their victory over the Toros this Thursday. With this win, the Yotes have improved to a record of 2-2-1 in the CCAA, securing 6th position in the league.
Â
The game at Premier Field was dominated from start to finish by the clinical Yotes. In the 9
th minute of play, Unique Solis put it over the head of the Toros goalkeeper from 25 yards out, granting the Yotes an early 1-0 lead.
Â
Unieque Solis now has 4 goals this season and moves in No. 8 in the CCAA for goals scored.Â
Â
Solis also played a crucial role in setting up the second goal in the 18
th minute. She received the ball in the midfield and skillfully slipped it behind the defender to
Kaylen Gonzalez, who managed to outmuscle the defender, advance past her, and place the ball into the lower right corner of the net.
Â
The Yotes went into halftime confidently leading 2-0, and their momentum didn't wane after the break.
Â
In the 49th minute, Rebecca Cruz managed to break away from the Toros' defense and had a shot on goal before being fouled from behind by a defender. As a result, the Yotes were awarded a penalty kick, with
Kaylen Gonzalez taking the shot. Gonzalez successfully converted the penalty with a low shot into the right corner of the goal, redeeming herself for a missed penalty the previous week. This goal extended the Yotes' lead to 3-0 and marked Gonzalez's second goal of the game.
Â
With 3 goals and 3 assists so far,
Kaylen Gonzalez has moved up to the 9
th spot in points for the CCAA.
Â
Even with a 3-0 lead, the Yotes were not done scoring. In the final minute of the game, following a successful interception of the ball from a Toros' midfielder,
Yvette Ochoa dribbled at the Toro defense before slipping it to
Alondra Toledo. Toledo laced a shot that sailed past the diving Toro's goalkeeper, making the score 4-0. The Toros' defeat concluded with that score line.
Â
With the win,
Leila Peregrina improves to 5 shutouts on the season, No. 4 in the CCAA.
