LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Yotes fought to a 1-1 draw against Cal State Los Angeles at University Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon. With the draw, the Yotes are 2-2-2 in CCAA play, and the Golden Eagles have now drawn their last four matches.
The Golden Eagles applied early pressure, taking a total of 5 shots in the first half and forcing two saves from
Leila Peregrina. In the 10th minute of the game, Cal State LA's Skylynn Rodriguez drove into the 18-yard box and struck the ball hard towards the front post. Peregrina left her feet and made an incredible diving save to push the ball wide.
The Yotes did not allow the Golden Eagles' pressure to deter them. In the 20
th minute,
Alaina O'Connell collected the ball at the halfway line and sent a ball over the top of the defense to a sprinting
Nathaly Losada Lucumi. Although the ball got caught up behind her feet, Lucumi managed to strike it and find the back of the net.
The goal gave the Yotes a 1-0 lead going into the second half.
After halftime, Cal State Los Angeles came out with full force in search of the tying goal. The Golden Eagles took 13 shots, with 6 on target. The Yotes would take only three shots in the second half, with one on target.
Things also became a bit contentious between the teams in the second half, with the referee calling 13 fouls. Nine of those fouls were called against the Yotes.
In the 57th minute, the Golden Eagles advanced down the right side of the field and crossed the ball into the box. LA's Alice Hernandez struck the ball on the first touch, and
Leila Peregrina displayed her quick reactions by parrying the ball over the net.
The former Mt. San Antonio College goalkeeper, Peregrina, collected 5 saves in the game, bringing her season total to 35 saves with a save average of .714.
The Golden Eagles managed to find the tying goal in the 80th minute, making the final score a 1-1 draw.
