ARCATA, Calif. – The CSUSB women's soccer team took a loss on the road to the No. 21 ranked Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks on Sunday afternoon with a score of 3-1. The Yotes now hold a 4-4-1 record, with a 1-1-0 record in conference.
In the first half, both the Yotes and the Lumberjacks came out strong. Within the first 12 minutes of the game, both
Leila Peregrina and the Lumberjacks' goalkeeper Thomson-Terrel had to make saves.
In the 20
th minute,
Nathaly Losada Lucumi nearly broke the deadlock with a high shot towards goal, but Thomson-Terrel was able to make the save.
In the 29
th minute of play, Cal Poly Humboldt's Frida Duran Arellano scored to make the score 1-0.
The Yotes dominated play after half time, eager to find the tying goal.
In the 62
nd minute of play,
Kaylen Gonzalez found the ball at her feet near the top of the box. Gonzalez selflessly chipped it into the path of
Nathaly Losada Lucumi, who half volleyed it past the diving goalkeeper to tie the game.
With this goal, Losada Lucumi moved into 4
th in the CCAA for goals and 3
rd for shots on goal.
Kaylen Gonzalez would also get her first assist of the 2023 season.
Though the Yotes continued to press for a goal, the Lumberjacks would score in the 83
rd minute off a corner kick to make the score 2-1. In the final minute of the game, the Yotes had almost every player in the Lumberjacks' box to try and tie the game off a corner kick. The Lumberjacks were able to clear the ball and score on a counterattack, to finish the game with a 3-1 score.
