SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB women's soccer team tied with Stanislaus State on Friday afternoon in their first CCAA home game with a final score of 2-2. The Yotes now hold a 1-1-1 CCAA record and a 4-4-2 overall record.
In August of this year, Stanislaus State was selected as the preseason favorites in the 2023 CCAA Women's Soccer Coaches Poll. The Yotes were fully prepared for a hard-fought match against this formidable opponent.
From the kickoff, action ignited at Premier Field. In the 1
st minute of the game, Stanislaus State's Alexis Brewah scored a brilliant half-volley goal with an assist off the head of Makeila Yancey.
Despite the Warriors' goal, the Yotes remained undeterred and quickly regrouped.
Kaylen Gonzalez received the ball in the Warriors' half and lost her defender with a clever cutback, before delivering a precise cross to
Nathaly Losada Lucumi. Lucumi's first-time strike found the back of the net, equalizing the game at 1-1 in just the 10
th minute.
In the last two games,
Nathaly Losada Lucumi has scored goals, bringing her season total to 5, which ranks her as the fourth highest goal scorer in the CCAA. Furthermore, in those same two games,
Kaylen Gonzalez has contributed with assists.
Throughout the first half, the Yotes maintained their offensive pressure on the Warriors' defense, unleashing a total of 7 shots. Their second goal of the match occurred in the 24
th minute.
It transpired after the Yotes' offensive efforts led to the Warriors' defense conceding a corner kick.
Alyssa Rubio took the corner kick, but instead of delivering a conventional service into the box, she executed a skillful, curling shot that proved too challenging for the Warriors' goalkeeper to handle, resulting in the ball finding the back of the net. The curling corner gave Rubio, the Santiago Canyon Community College transfer, her second goal of the season.
The Yotes entered halftime with a 2-1 lead over the Warriors.
The pressure on the Warriors did not let up in the second half, with the Yotes forcing 7 saves from the goalkeeper, Natalia Ochoa.
In the 60th minute of play, the Warriors managed to equalize, as Haylee Heffner scored, barely beating
Leila Peregrina.
Despite the Yotes' determined effort to secure a win, the game concluded with a 2-2 draw against the Warriors.
