Two Yotes Record Double-Double in Road Win

Box Score TURLOCK, Calif. – This week the Yotes hoped to secure a win on their last NorCal trip before the second half of the season.

The Yotes are 18-11 over the Warriors since the 2008 season and look to add another win to that record against their CCAA opponent. In a game that could set the tone for the rest of the season, the Yotes scored early and often.

Only two possessions in, Mia Finnie put up a layup, the first of seven points this quarter for the senior Forward. The Yotes dominated in nearly all aspects of the first quarter and to no surprise it was their offense that led them as they shot 75% from the free throw line and were 26.7% from the field.

The Yotes defensive game was unrelenting against the Warriors with eight defensive rebounds in the second quarter coming from five different Yotes - Samantha Henley, Destiny Jackson and Finnie each contributing two. After a slow start, season-leading scorer Destiny Jackson had a driving layup to put the Yotes ahead by one and brought her point total to four. The Yotes didn't give up the lead for the remainder of the first half, holding the Warriors to a score of 26-23.

The Warriors barely outscored the Yotes in the third quarter. They were 6-15 from the field and held the lead almost the entirely of the third. Mia Dufresne continued to dominate defensively (4 REBs) and picked up her offensive game for a total of five points to keep the Yotes ahead by one yet again.

Both squads played their offensive bests in the final 10 minutes of the game, but everything was working in the Yotes' favor up to the final 11 seconds of the game. The Warriors' tied up the game with a 3-pointer but Tatianna Russell fired back with a deep 3-pointer of her own with seven seconds on the clock. That was enough to push the Yotes ahead by three, making the final score of the game 62-59.

Dufresne finished the night leading both teams in scoring (14 PTS), rebounds (14), blocks (4) and efficiency (20.0), making this the redshirt sophomores third double-double this season. Jackson was not far behind, putting up 10 PTS and 10 REBs for her second double-double of the season. Deja Blue and Finnie were both key offensive factors in the win tonight with Blue taking the second leading-scorer position with 13 PTS and Finnie scoring 11.
