SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Heading into their last game of the series, and last home game of the 2022 season, the Yotes stood 2-1 against the Cal St. East Bay Pioneers. CSU East was first on the board and the score was tied going into the bottom of the eighth inning. CSUSB scored three runs to take the lead and the victory, 6-3, sending them to the CCAA Championship Tournament for the first time since 2016.
The lead pitcher for the Yotes was
Nate Mendoza who pitched six innings for 88 pitches and five strikeouts on the game.
John Pfeffer took the mound with the score tied and threw 31 pitches for two strikeouts and one earned run.
Oscar Rauda was next up and closed the game with seven pitches.
Brandon Galindo put CSUSB on the board by hitting a single to center field for a two RBI.
Garrett Macias hit his fifth home run on the season in the eighth inning to take the lead for the Yotes. The biggest hit of the game was by
Riley Parker who singled down the left line for a two RBI and the final two runs on the game. This win takes the Yotes to the CCAA Championships for the first time since 2016.
"The first inning was a rollercoaster, but once Nate settled in, he did a great job for us" said coach
Mike Nadeau. "What a team effort. These guys have been awesome all year long. The culture here is just fun. Win or lose these guys are having a blast playing."
