ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – In their last CCAA regular season series, the Yotes faced the Sonoma State Seawolves. The Seawolves had a momentum CSUSB could not catch as they shutout the Yotes, 4-0.
Thursday was the first day of the series and
Austyn Coleman was the lead pitcher for the Yotes. Coleman pitched three innings for 65 pitches collecting four strikeouts. Sonoma State kept CSUSB scoreless until the fourth inning when Gio Del Negro hit a homerun to left field for an RBI. Garret Macias added a homerun to his stat sheet in the seventh inning for a single RBI.
The Yotes collected 11 hits, six RBIs, 10 assists, and 24 putouts. Del Negro led in hits for CSUSB as he collected three hits, and two RBIs.
AJ Barraza led the Yotes on the defensive end with four assists, and four put outs on the game. CSUSB inched closer to the Seawolves, but were unable to catch them falling, 8-6 in game one.
Andres Quinones took the mound for the Yotes in game two of the series on the first game of the doubleheader on Friday, May 6
th. Quinones pitched five innings on 95 pitches collecting three strikeouts and had five earned runs and one wild pitch. The biggest hit on the game was by
AJ Barraza who hit a double down the right field line for an RBI. This was the single run for the Yotes as The Seawolves won the second game of the series, 5-1.
On third game of the series, the Yotes played their second game of the doubleheader against Sonoma State.
Raul Salazar was lead pitcher for CSUSB as he pitched three innings for 62 pitches collecting four strikeouts and four earned runs. Macias connected for two hits on the game. The Yotes were unable to cross home plate in the second game of the doubleheader. Seawolves topped the Yotes, 8-0.
The last game of the series against Sonoma State,
Nate Mendoza held the mound for four innings on 76 pitches collecting two strikeouts and had two walks and one wild pitch. The biggest hit on the game was by
Jake Borst in the fourth inning when he homered to center field for a single RBI. Borst led the Yotes in hits as he collected two on the game. CSUSB was unable to put more points on the board and fell to the Seawolves, 7-1.
The Yotes season continues as they head to Chico State to compete in the CCAA Championship tournament at the sixth seed. They will have a rematch of this series, as their first opponent is Sonoma State. All games will be streamed on ccaanetwork.com.
