TURLOCK, Calif. – The Yotes continued their outing at the Tournament of Champions for day to of the event. CSUSB battled in their first game, falling short against Chaminade University. In the last game of the day, the Yotes shutout Northwest University, 2-0, to split the day.
In game one the lead pitcher for CSUSB was
Sofia Gombos who pitched for four innings on 54 pitches. The Yotes collected five hits, three RBIs, and 12 assists on the game.
Alyssa Martinez lead the CSUSB in hits as she connected for two. The game was scoreless until the fifth inning where the Yotes three runs were topped by Chaminade as they scored four. Chaminade narrowly won the first game, 4-3.
Brooklyn Blackmon pitched her second complete game of the season, shutting out Northwest Nazarene University. Blackmon collected two strikeouts on 116 pitches with no errors. The Yotes connected on four hits, and had nine assists and two RBIs. The winning hit was made by
Bailey Wallace who doubled in the fourth inning for a two RBI that would win the game for the Yotes. CSUSB shutout Northwest Nazarene, 2-0.
"We dropped a tough loss against Chaminade" said coach
Dee Payan. "We were ahead and leading into the 5th but couldn't close the door. Brooke Blackmon was phenomenal in the circle for us in the second game. She was commanding her pitches and attacking the zone. Our defense played really well behind Brooke and feed off of her energy.
Alyssa Martinez and
Kaylee Williamson sparked up our offense with a couple base hits to get us in scoring position.
Bailey Wallace came in clutch in a big moment and squared up a ball down the left field line to put us in the board."
CSUSB closes the Tournament of Champions tomorrow in Turlock as they take on the Hawaii Pacific University at 9 a.m.
