Yotes Fall Short In Doubleheader Against Toros

CSUSB continued their series against Cal St. Dominguez Hills.

CARSON, Calif. The CSUSB Coyotes took the field Saturday for games two and three of a four-game series between the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros. Yotes were unable to cross the plate in game one, and hung on close in game two, but could not top the Toros.

Austyn Coleman was on the mound for the Yotes, who entered the day boasting a 2.27 ERA and a 2.33 ERA since joining the starting rotation. He came off a complete game two-run win versus Cal State Los Angeles last Saturday but did not have his best start of the season, giving up five earned runs over six innings in the 8-0 loss. However, he walked only one batter and struck out three. While the offense was lacking, CSUSB was able to get four hits and four walks apiece. Centerfielder Derek Bogh led the way, recording a hit, two walks, and a stolen base. Outfielder Brandon Galindo, who has split time between left and center field this season, increased his reached base streak to 22 games with a hit in both games.

Game two looked better for the Yotest. Southpaw Andres Quinones earned the start for the Yotes. Quinones, another solid pitcher in the rotation, entered the day with a 3.41 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. However, Dominguez Hills scored five runs in the second inning, enough to do the job. Things looked better offensively, however. First baseman Daryl Ruiz hit an RBI double in the 5th to end the Yotes' scoring drought. CSUSB nearly led a comeback, and Kyle Csakan hit a 2-run Home Run to make it 5-3. Unfortunately, that was the last time the Yotes crossed the plate and Cal St. Dominguez Hills took the victory.

CSUSB is scheduled to play their next game on Sunday, April 3rd at 12 p.m. in Carson as they close the series against Cal St. Dominguez Hills. Streaming is available on the ccaanetwork.com.
