SEASIDE, Calif. – Heading into the game the Yotes held an overall record of 15-10 against the CSU Monterey Bay Otters. CSUSB took the lead in the first quarter and never lost grip as they won their last game of the season, 67-56.
The Yotes shot an impressive 50 percent from the field hitting seven of 14 shots in the first quarter. They also shot 50 percent from beyond the arch, also in the first quarter, nailing three of six shots. CSUSB scored 28 of their points in the paint and 14 fast break points.
The Yotes battled for 35 rebounds leading to four second chance points on the game. CSUSB spread the floor, collected 13 assists and 42 bench points. Once the Yotes took the lead in the first quarter the Otters could never catch them. CSUSB won the final game of the season, 67-56.
"We started from the tip of the game and never lost our focus for the entire game" said coach
Casandra Renno. "We've had so much growth this year and I'm proud that we ended on a high note."
Leading in scoring for the Yotes was
Destiny Jackson who scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds for her second double-double on the season.
Kaelyn Blackwell scored 16 points and grabbed two rebounds for CSUSB.
Tatianna Russell also scored in double digits collecting 10 points, nine rebounds and one assist on the game.
The Yotes close the season with an overall record of 9-17 and conference record of 6-14. They improved on the previous year's record of 4-21 and 4-18.
