SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Yotes CCAA season opener was held at Fiscalini Field against the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos. Heading into the game, CSUSB held an overall record of 5-11 against the Broncos. The Yotes could not keep pace with Cal Poly Pomona, falling in the opening game of the series, 5-11.
The Yotes leading pitcher was
Raul Salazar who pitched for three innings collecting four strike outs. The biggest play on the night was by
Deshawn Johnson who homered to left field bring home two Yotes for a two RBI.
Daryl Ruiz connected on two hits on the night for two RBI's.
Giovanni Del Negro also collected two hits one of which was a double. The Yotes collected a lower than usual five hits on the game. Unable to put points on the bored, the Broncos won the first game of the series, 5-11.
"We didn't give our self a chance tonight" said coach Mike Nadaeu. "To many free bases. Most teams will take advantage of that all day. Good to see Johnson, Ruiz and Del Negro, the meat of our line, up try to keep us in it. We will be back at it tomorrow ready to go."
CSUSB is scheduled to play their next doubleheader on Saturday, February 26
th with first pitch at 12 p.m. at Fiscalini Field against Cal Poly Pomona. Streaming is available on the ccaanetwork.com.
