Yotes Shutout Pioneers in Game One, Fall In Game Two

CSUSB won their home opener but fall to CSUEB in game two.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Yotes hosted the Cal State East Bay Pioneers for their home opener at the CSUSB Softball Park. Heading into the game, CSUSB held an overall record of 20-20 against the Pioneers. The day would also end with an even result, CSUSB split the day 1-1.
 
In the first game of the doubleheader, the lead pitcher for the Yotes was Sofia Gombos who collected pitched for 3.1 innings and pitcher Natalie Carlos came into the game to pitcher the remaining 3.2. Bailey Wallace was on target for three hits one of which was a double for an RBI. Ariana Chavarria also collected a hit for an RBI. CSUSB won the first game, 3-0.
 
The second game Sofia Gombos closed the game for the Yotes and collected four strike outs in the 2.2 innings pitched. Wallace led CSUSB in hit with two more on the game. Tereise Tosi connected on a hit that brought in the sole run home for the Yotes. CSUSB was unable to keep the Pioneers off the scoreboard. CSUEB won the second game, 2-1. CSUSB is now 1-1 in their series with the Pioneers.

"The team fought hard today. Our pitching staff has been doing a great job keeping in the game" said coach Dee Payan. "Kelia and Bailey have been our key producers at the plate. Looking to make more offensive adjustment to produce more runs at the plate."
 
CSUSB is scheduled to play their next doubleheader against Cal State East Bay on Saturday, February 19th starting at 11:00 a.m. at the CSUSB Softball Park. Streaming will be available through ccaanetwork.com.
