SEASIDE, Calif. – The CSUSB women's basketball team defeated Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon, rising to 6-2 on the season with a 2-1 record in CCAA play.
Destiny Jackson and
Jaida Jackson led the way for the Yotes, scoring 13 and 10 points respectively. The two are also the leading scorers for CSUSB on the season, with Destiny ranking fourth in the conference at 97 points. The former CCAA Player of the Week also leads the team with 12.1 points per game on the year.
Tori Guzman followed close behind both Jacksons with eight points against the Otters, a season-high for the Yucaipa native.
Mia Dufresne led the team with nine rebounds while scoring seven.
The Yotes shot well in The Kelp Bed, sitting above 40 percent from both the field and three-point territory. Jackson, Guzman,
Samantha Henley, and
Nikki Mayoral each made a pair of threes, combining to shoot 45 percent beyond the arc. Comparatively, the Otters struggled to make their shots – shooting 38 percent from the floor and 23 percent from three.
The game remained close until the final minute of play. With the game tied at 48-48 with three minutes on the clock, the Otters took a 50-48 lead on a jumper inside the paint. A minute later,
Tori Guzman hit the biggest shot of the game - draining a three to give the Yotes the lead once again. With the score sitting at 53-52 and just a few seconds on the clock,
Destiny Jackson made a trey right before the buzzer to seal the 56-52 win.

The Yotes have the week off, but will return to action at Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-0) next Sunday, December 11
th, at 1:00 PM. They will then host Cal State East Bay in The Den for their first CCAA home game of the season on Friday, December 16
