SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The CSUSB women's basketball team earned their first conference win of the season on Thursday night with a 66-56 win over San Francisco State, improving to 1-1 in CCAA play and 5-2 overall.
Five different Yotes scored double-digits in the win over the Gators, that being
Nikki Mayoral,
Jaida Jackson,
Deja Bleu,
Mia Dufresne, and
Destiny Jackson. In addition,
Samantha Henley was just one point shy of joining those five with nine points of her own.
After taking the lead in the first quarter, the Yotes never trailed for the remainder of the game. CSUSB shot a collective 39 percent from the floor and 43 percent from three-point range - their second-highest three-point percentage of the season. Their ability to score became crucial in preventing SFSU from putting together a comeback later in the second half.
Dufresne and Jackson helped keep the ball in possession of the Yotes, leading the team with eight rebounds each. CSUSB gathered 41 rebounds to SF State's 34, which converted into 14 second-chance points for the Yotes.
"We played with composure and confidence. We didn't give up and played tough down the stretch. We made big time shots and plays when we needed them. Balanced scoring is going to continue to be a huge key to our success down the stretch." – Head Coach Casandra Renno
