SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB women's basketball team defeated Point Loma on Friday afternoon, winning 81-63 to improve to 1-0 on the season. The Yotes' opening day win was their first since the 2017 season, when they defeated Saint Martin's 69-44.
Destiny Jackson powered the offense to the win, leading the Yotes with 23 points and shooting 53 percent from the field while making three of four behind the arc. The Hayward native also led the team in rebounds, recording six in the game. Her 23-point performance was just the third time she has eclipsed 20 points in a game while wearing the Blue & Black.
Three other Yotes also posted double-digit performances, that being
Jaida Jackson with 13, Gabby Stoll with 10, and
Mia Finnie with 10. The team went 29 for 64 from the floor, good for a 45 percent shooting percentage.
The story of the night, however, was the Yotes' ability to drain shots from deep. The Yotes' offense went 10 for 18 beyond the arc, resulting in a .556 three-point percentage. This is the Yotes' best single-game three-point percentage since January 26, 2018, when they also shot .556 against Cal State Monterey Bay.
