ARCATA, Calif. – The CSUSB women's volleyball swept Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday night, improving to 18-4 on the season with a 12-3 record in CCAA play. Despite being tied for the most overall wins in the conference, the #14 Yotes currently sit 0.5 games back in the standings behind #23 Cal State Los Angeles (17-5, 12-2). If CSUSB wins on Saturday, and CSULA loses one of their two games this weekend, the two teams would be tied for first place, each with a 13-3 conference record.
Just as they did on September 17
th, the Yotes made quick work of the Lumberjacks with a sweep of all three sets on Thursday night – winning by scores of 25-20, 25-11, and 25-13. The Yotes have now won nine consecutive matches against the Lumberjacks dating back to November 2014, all nine of which have been 3-0 sweeps.
To no surprise, sophomore
Ashley Robinson led the Yotes' attack with 14 kills in the match. Robinson did not have a single error on her swings, good for a .424 hit percentage – her second highest in a match this season. The Tucson native leads the Yotes with 228 kills on the season while also averaging 3.00 kills per set.
Libero
Makena Overbey and
Asia Clarke led the defense with 24 and 15 digs, respectively. Clarke,
Lydia Morohunfola,
Melissa Garciglia, and
Savannah Hoffman also each recorded four kills in the game.
The Yotes only had seven hitting errors in the match, including zero in the second set. With 13 kills in 29 attempts, this was good for a .448 hitting percentage during that set. In addition, their seven hitting errors is the second-fewest in a match this season.
