D. Jackson Leads All Players with 18 Points Against Pioneers

Yotes host CCAA leader Cal State East Bay

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – CSUSB hosted the CCAA No. 1 Cal State East Bay Pioneers as the season reaches its halfway point. The Yotes battled and went toe to toe with the Pioneers. It was the second half when CSUEB sealed the victory, 70-59.
 
First quarter Destiny Jackson came out the gates hot, scoring the first five points for the Yotes on one jump shot and one three pointers. Cal State East Bay went to the line for and made six of eight shots. Both CSUSB and the Pioneers battled out on the boards, collecting nine each. The lead would change twice in the first quarter. CSUEB led going into the second quarter, 19-15.
 
The Yotes continued to hang in there, fighting for every possession forcing five turnovers in the first five minutes of the second quarter. The Yotes once again took the lead, this time off of a three-point shot by Tori Guzman, 23-21. Both teams were leveled in the paint as CSUSB scored 12 points against the Pioneers 14 points. At the end of the half, CSUEB led 32-27.
 
In the second half of the game the Pioneers expanded their lead, shooting at 42.9 percent in field goals and 83.3 percent from the free throw line. The Yotes brought the block party as they collected six blocks on the game. CSUSB also pushed the pace scoring 13 points on fast breaks. The Yotes fought till the very end but ultimately fell to the Pioneers, 70-59.
 
Leading all players in scoring was Destiny Jackson who collected 18 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Leading on the boards for the Yotes was Mia Dufresne who grabbed nine rebounds, and scored 12 points, and had an astounding four blocks. Also scoring 12 points for CSUSB was Tatianna Russell who also nabbed three rebounds and two blocks.
 
CSUSB is scheduled to play their next game on Saturday, January 29th at 1:00 p.m. in Coussoulis Arena against Cal State Dominguez Hills. Spectators are limited to only guests of student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
