Yotes Sealed First Away Win Toppling Lumberjacks, 63-51

CSUSB travelled to Arcata to take on the Humboldt State Lumberjacks.

ARCATA, Calif. - Going into the game, the Yotes held an overall record against Humboldt State of 7-17. The Lumberjacks held a fourth-place position in the CCAA standings. CSUSB quickly took control of the game and maintained their lead. The Yotes sealed their first away victory, 63-51.
 
In the first quarter CSUSB worked together on the defensive end by putting enough pressure on the Lumberjacks to force eight turnovers. Humboldt State would not back down as the lead during the first quarter changed four times. Once the Yotes began to capitalize on their defensive effort, CSUSB expanded their lead to eight points. Yotes would take the lead into the second quarter, 13-5.
 
CSUSB shot 50% from beyond the arch, hitting three three-point shots in the second quarter. The Yotes scored eight of their points off of the bench. They also out rebound the Lumberjacks 11 rebounds to nine. CSUSB continued to force turnovers transitioning them into seven points. Humboldt State outscored the Yotes in the second quarter 21-17, but CSUSB kept thier lead 30-26, going into halftime.
 
The Yotes increased their momentum and took over the pace of the game in the third quarter scoring 13 points off of turnovers. CSUSB consistently scored from the paint adding 13 more points from down low.  Each Yote was ready to contribute as 14 points came off the bench in the third quarter. CSUSB took the lead into the fourth quarter, 49-37.
 
The Yotes sealed the deal in the fourth quarter and took their first away win of the season. CSUSB got the job done and kept the lead of 12 points throughout the last quarter. The Yotes topped the Lumberjacks, 63-51.
 
"We played hard for 40 minutes as a team" said coach Casandra Renno on their first away victory. "We didn't let up, we understood the assignment and executed."
 
Leading all players in scoring was Jaida Jackson who collected 18 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. The only player to collect a double-double of the game was Destiny Jackson who added 13 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals. Kaelyn Blackwell scored nine points, had six rebounds, and two assists. Also scoring nine points was Nikki Mayoral who also had three rebounds.
