INDIANAPOLIS – Fresh off being the unanimous selection to repeat as the CCAA champions, the Yotes were selected third in the AVCA Division II Coaches Top-25 Poll.
Due to COVID-19 the Yotes did not play in 2020, and enter 2021 riding a 33-match winning streak dating back to the fall of 2018.
The Yotes posted a perfect 33-0 record in 2019 en route to winning the first team NCAA Championship in school history. CSUSB was only the third team in the history of NCAA Division II to go undefeated in a season and they will bring a 22-match CCAA winning streak into conference play.
In addition to the 33-match win streak the Yotes have won 47-straight CCAA matches at home dating back to 2015. The Yotes return a powerful core from the 2019 title team with All-CCAA selections
Alexis Cardoza,
Leilia To'omalatai, and
Jalyn Hayes returning, along with Region All-Tournament selection
Lydia Morohunfola and starters
Marlee Nunley and
Asia Clarke. They are joined by other experienced returners from the 2019 team and two recruiting classes worth of Yotes ready to make their debut for CSUSB.
Despite being ranked third, the Yotes garnered 15 first-place votes, more than the nine of second-place Concordia – St. Paul.
The Yotes will open play on Thursday, Sept. 2 in a neutral site contest in San Diego against Regis University. These teams last met in the semifinals match of the 2019 NCAA Championships.
