Yotes Topple the Wildcats, Head to CCAA Semifinals

CSUSB hosted the first round of the CCAA Championship Tournament against Chico State.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Yotes finished the regular season in third place in the CCAA conference allowing them to host the first round of the CCAA Championships Tournament on Premier Field. Chico State would be CSUSB's first hurdle to jump, and CSUSB did just that taking the win, 1-0.

Overall, CSUSB holds a 9-7-2 record against Chico State. The first time these two teams met this year was on October 1st at Chico State in the CCAA season opener for CSUSB. The Yotes blanked the Wildcats, 3-0, in that match. Today, it would be a much closer match.

In the first half, each team was struggling to get an open shot. CSUSB took two shots on the half as Chico State only took one. The second half the Yotes put the pressure on the Wildcats, taking nine shots on the half. Jeronimo Valdepena took two shots on goal and Rigo Aguilar also took two shots.

Chico State would continue to struggle finding shots as they only took three in the second half. CSUSB's defense in Andres Aguirre, Aguilar, Tony Di Donato, Juan Larios, and Niel Gillies kep the Wildcats scoreless. It was with 43 seconds left on the match the Yotes made a play on the goal as Gerardo Flores hit the winning goal off an assist by Di Donato and Aguilar. CSUSB toppled Chico State, 1-0.

The Yotes head to Cal State LA to compete in the semifinal match of the CCAA Championship Tournament on Friday, November 12th at 4pm in Los Angeles against Cal Poly Pomona.  Live stats will be available here. Streaming is available on ccaanetwork.com
