Yotes End Regular Season With Dominating Shutout

CSUSB hosted Cal State San Marcos and took the win 5-0.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Yotes lit up the scoreboard on Premier Field as they faced off against the Cal State San Marcos Cougars. In the last game of the regular season before CSUSB host a playoff match this Sunday, the Yotes blanked the Cougars, 5-0.

In the first half, CSUSB's offense was primarily in control of the ball and the movement on the field. This ball movement and teamwork lead to the Yotes first goal in the 19th minute by Gerardo Flores off an assist by Francisco Sierra. Continuing the work ethic and great coordination, Francisco Gomez connected for another goal for CSUSB assisted by Coby Atkinson in the 35th minute taking the score to 2-0.

Hustle and effort from the Yotes would not waiver. In the 43rd minute, Kevin Aguilar hit a goal off of a penalty kick. The defense in Andres Aguirre, Rigo Aguilar, Tony Di Donato, Juan Larios, and Neil Gillies kept the Cougars scoreless going into halftime. The score at halftime would be, 3-0.

Going into the second half CSUSB would keep the same tempo and effort. The Yotes would not be done scoring as Rigo Aguilar scored a goal in the 67th minute off of a penalty kick. The final goal of the match would be scored by Tannor Knorr in one of the most impressive team effort plays of the season. In the 79th minute Knorr hit the goal off of an assist by Pedro Arellano and Omari Mark.

"Today was a true team effort" said coach Josh Hill. " We have a special group of young men and this was a great ending to our regular season. All year we have had guys step up in big moments and today we got to see some new faces do the same. This game gives us some momentum going into the weekend but we still have work to do and its time to focus on the next match this sunday."

The Yotes host their first CCAA match on Sunday, November 7th at 12pm on Premier Field against Chico State.  Live stats will be available here. Streaming is available on ccaanetwork.com
