SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Heading into the match the Yotes held an overall record of 23-2 against the Cal State La Golden Eagles. Coming off a win from the previous day, Cal State LA was determined to continue their run in the tournament. NCAA West Region No. 1 CSUSB downed Cal State LA, 3-1 .
In the first set the Yotes and Golden Eagles were neck and neck. They traded point for point all the up to a tied score of 17-17. It was CSUSB's defense that put them over Cal State LA. The Yote finished the set with 10 blocks.
Jalyn Hayes finished the set with four blocks and
Melissa Garciglia collected another three on the set.
Jenna Patton had her way with the middle as she finished the set with five kills. The Golden Eagles kept the Yotes in close range with their own defensive effort, keeping CSUSB to 12 kills hitting at a .176 percentage. It would not be enough, as the Yote took the first set, 25-19.
The second set the Yotes would take the lead, but once again Cal State La would stick close by. CSUSB's greatest lead was by five points with the score at 24-19. The Yotes would then give up three points in a row due to communication errors.
CSUSB improved their hitting percentage as they tallied 14 kills with a .323 percentage. The Yoted did not connect for a block and had four service errors on the set. It would be the miscommunication on the floor that would be their downfall. The Golden Eagles won the set, 27-25.
Alexis Cardoza created a way to score in almost every position on the floor. Both Cardoza and Hayes collected five kills in the third set each. The Yotes finished the set with 16 kills with a hitting percentage of .317. CSUSB made sure not to let the Golden Eagles build moment, as they took the lead and never relinquished it. The Yotes won the set, 25-17.
The fourth and last set, CSUSB continued their great defensive effort as they collected four blocks and kept Cal State LA to a .029 hitting percentage. The Yotes collected 14 kills on the set with Cardoza adding six kills of her own. Once CSUSB found their flow, they would become unstoppable. The Yotes won the set, 25-18.
Leading in kills for CSUSB was Cardoza who tallied 18 kills and had 17 digs. Hayes closed the match with 10 kills and six blocks. Garciglia also finished the match with 10 kills and had five blocks. Another Yote with double digit kills was Patton who tallied 10 kills and had four blocks.
