SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Yotes took a moment to celebrate the hard work of five seniors and recognized their contribution to the CSUSB community on and off the field. The senior class at CSUSB has done things no class before them accomplished, most notably winning the 2019 NCAA National Championship. It was the first national championship with a perfect record, 33-0. In the last regular season match, the No. 3 Nationally Ranked Yotes downed Chico State, 3-0.
In the first set,
Melissa Garciglia kept her momentum from her last match and collected six kills on the set. Senior
Alexis Cardoza connected on five kills of her own. The Yotes went for 19 kills in the first set hitting at a .359 percentage. Chico State kept close, hitting 13 kills at a .333 percentage. The Wildcats were unable to keep pace as the Yotes took the first set, 25-21.
CSUSB was sure to take a big lead, at one point going on a 6-0 run. The Yotes defense kept the Chico State to 10 kills with a .132 percentage. CSUSB took the second set with a more comfortable lead, 25-19.
To start the last and final set of the regular season, the Yotes went on a 7-0 run. Garciglia once again inflicted her will on the Wildcats, connecting for eight kills on the set. Jalyn Haye had a big third set as well collected four kills. The third set would be the Yotes their best set of the match, hitting 15 kills at a .294 percentage. CSUSB took the final set, and the win, 25-12.
Leading in kills for the Yotes was Garciglia as she collected 18 kills and had three blocks and two digs. Hayes closed the match and regular season with nine kills, three blocks and two digs. Cardoza finished the match with eight kills and 12 digs. Nunley strategized the offense for 35 assists and had six digs and two aces.
Leilia To'omalatai ended the match with 14 digs and two assists.
The Yotes finish the CCAA regular season with an undefeated record of 18-0. They are top seeded for the upcoming CCAA Championship Tournament hosted in Coussoulis Arena. Since CSUSB was top see they have a bye on the first day of competition but will compete on Nov. 19
