SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Yotes took a moment before their match to celebrate the positive contributions faculty has had for our student-athletes. Before the match, CSUSB held an 18-1 record against the Stanislaus State Warriors. The Warriors would hold the lead multiple times during the match, but it was the Yotes who took the win, 3-0.
In the first set,
Melissa Garciglia connected for seven kills all of which were assisted by
Marlee Nunley. As a team CSUSB had 16 kills hitting at .361 percentage. The Yotes defense kept the Warriors to 10 kills out of 30 attempts. Coming into the rotation was
Ashley Robinson who had a kill on the set.
Asia Clarke also scored big for the Yotes, collection three kills on the set. CSUSB took set one comfortably, 25-17
The second set Stanislaus State came out ready to make a run. At one point the Yotes were down nine points against the Warriors. CSUSB went on a 6-1 run and were slowly inching back.
Alexis Cardoza collected three kills on the set as the Yotes took back the lead. Stanislaus State did could not find an answer for Garciglia as she added five more kills to her stat sheet in the second set. The Yotes won the second set, 25-18.
In the third set, the Warriors traded point for point with the Yotes and held the lead with a score of 8-5. Stanislaus State kept the lead up to a score of 11-15. CSUSB went on a run themselves, scoring 6-1. Garciglia would continue to score almost at will, collecting another five kills in the third set. Although the Warriors forced a close set, the Yotes took the final set, 25-22.
Leading in kills for the Yotes, Garciglia collected 17 on the match.
Jenna Patton tallied seven kills, three blocks, and three digs. Cardoza led CSUSB in digs with 11 on the match and had six kills. Nunley found her teammates for 39 assists, and had four kills and three digs.
The Yotes (22-3, 17-0 CCAA) will celebrate their seniors at their next match Saturday, November 13th at 7pm at Coussoulis Arena when they face Chico State in their final regular season match. Live stream at ccaanetwork.com.
