TURLOCK, Calif. - Going into this match the Yotes had a 7-3 record against Stanislaus State and last played them over two years ago. The Yotes would score early in the match, but the Warriors did not settle and forced the game into overtime where CSUSB hit the game winning shot, taking the win 2-1.
The first half the Yotes took eight shots. The defense in
Tony Di Donato,
Andres Aguirre,
Rigo Aguilar,
Juan Larios and
Neil Gillies kept Stanislaus State to only three shots on the half. CSUSB would be the first to light up the scoreboard as
Gerardo Flores scored a goal in the 29
th minute off of a penalty kick. Yotes took the lead into the half, 1-0.
CSUSB would take only a few less shots in the second half, taking five total as a team. The Warriors put more pressure on the Yotes defense taking six shots in the second half. Stanislaus State was able to connect in the 63
rd minute forcing overtime.
It would not be long into overtime for CSUSB to score. In the 94
th minute,
Juan Larios connected with the net off of an assist by
Rigo Aguilar. Yotes took the overtime victory, 2-1.
