SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The match began with an NCAA Division II Championship ring ceremony and banner unveiling before the game clock would start. This was attended by the alumni from our 2019 championship team, special guest of athletics, President Tomas Morales, and Vice President of Student Affairs Paz Olivérez . In a rematch of the top two teams in the CCAA, the Yotes downed Cal Poly Pomona in four sets, 3-1.
After the ceremony concluded, the Yotes came sprinting out of the gate and were ready to outpace the Broncos. CSUSB had 15 kills (.314) and five blocks in the first set. The Yotes took the first set by double digits, winning it 25-13.
Cal Poly Pomona came racing back in the second set. The Yotes collected seven kills and hit at one of the lowest percentages this season. The Broncos took the set, 25-12.
The last two sets were won decisively by the Yotes, 25-17 and 25-16.
Alexis Cardoza lead the Yotes in kill with 17 and had 18 digs on the night.
Asia Clarke hit double digits with 12 kills, 11 digs, and had four blocks. Both Jalyn Hays and
Melissa Garciglia collected 10 kills on the game. Hayes also had an amazing three solo blocks and seven block assists.
Marlee Nunley finished the night with 47 assists, nine digs, and three block assists.
The Yotes ended a very special night with win against Cal Poly Pomona, 3-1
This victory against the number two team in CCAA on homecoming night and after the NCAA Division II ceremony, Coach
Kim Cherniss won her 700
th career win. After the victory, all Yotes in the stands and on the floor shared a rare milestone of a moment with Coach Cherniss and her team as she was recognized by those she has positive impacted throughout her career here at CSUSB.
