SAN BERNARDINO – The CSUSB men's soccer program and head coach
Darren Leslie recently announced the signing of Jorge Ruvalcaba to his National Letter of Intent.
Jorge hails from Rialto and Colton High School where he scored 60 goals with 15 assists in his senior season. The forward was named the League MVP, First Team All-Conference, and First Team All-CIF.
"We are extremely excited to announce the signing of Jorge Ruvalcaba to our 2020 recruiting class," Leslie said. "Jorge epitomizes the type of signing that we have built our program around over these last few years. A "diamond in the rough", Jorge is a local kid who wasn't heavily recruited out of high school but has blossomed into an outstanding talent during his gap year. Jorge is a standout player at the US Soccer Development Academy level and we expect him to continue to develop during his years here at CSUSB. Jorge brings pace, quality on the ball, and an ability to beat defenders 1v1 which will add to the dynamic quality of our front line for the 2020 season. Furthermore, Jorge is a good student-athlete and is motivated to be the first person in his family to graduate with a college degree."
Jorge played for FC Golden State Development Academy at the highest level of youth soccer in the country. He is the oldest of four children and a first-generation college student.
"Well I first want to thank my family, especially my parents who have supported me especially playing the sport I love the most," Ruvalcaba said. "I want to thank my siblings who inspire me and motivate me to keep working hard to grow as an individual on and off the field. My grandparents who have been cheering me on and supporting me ever since the first ever game I played as a kid. My girlfriend who is always there pushing me to never give up and to keep going regardless of the circumstances thrown at me. Last but not least I want to thank coach Darren and coach
Mark Peters for giving me this amazing opportunity of being able to play here. I chose CSUSB not only because it's close to home but most importantly I knew how talented the soccer team is. I am beyond grateful of having the chance to play with so many talented individuals who I know will only help me grow as a student-athlete, but as well as a person off the field. It's a true blessing to be able to come in to a school and play for a team who is not only nationally recognized, but top-five in the country. I look forward to accomplishing great things with this team."
Jorge will join a program in 2020 that just recorded its best season in school history, advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals with their first two NCAA Division II Tournament wins ever and a final national ranking of number five in the nation.
