BURNABY, Canada – The CSUSB Coyotes opened their 2019 campaign with a solid 1-0 win over MSU Billings on the campus of Simon Fraser.
Pedro Arellano broke the 0-0 tie in the 75th minute with an unassisted goal. The Yotes led on the attack with 14 shots compared to 11 for MSUB. CSUSB put six of those on frame with Tony Di Donato leading with two.
"The first game of the year is never usually much of a spectacle and today was no different," head coach Darren Leslie said. "It was scrappy from start to finish and it felt like it was going to take a moment of magic or something scrappy to eventually separate the teams. Credit to the guys for rolling their sleeves up and grinding out the result, but we are under no illusion and know we must improve ahead of a very tough test against SFU at home on Saturday."
Jacob Huber pitched the shutout in goal with one save.
The Yotes will play the host, Simon Fraser, on Saturday night at 7 pm. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
