SAN BERNARDINO – The No. 13 CSUSB Coyotes scored early and defeated Chico State 1-0 at home on Tuesday afternoon in the CCAA Quarterfinals.
In front of a lively and loud CSUSB crowd,
Jonathan Garcia broke through the middle in the 10
th minute on a connection from
Juan Larios to beat the keeper to the left side. The Yotes were able to control the game in the middle of the field from that point on.
Chico got one really good look in the 69
th minute, but keeper
Jacob Huber was up to the task stretching to his right on a dive to send the ball off the post.
Garcia had a chance to put the match away more or less in the 59
th minute when his shot sailed high. But the Yotes controlled the pace the rest of the way and earned the result.
"This was a total team effort today," Garcia said. "I was lucky enough to get the ball in that time and space to take advantage of that, and our defense just held it down from there."
The Yotes, who won in shutout fashion for the 10
th time this year, advance to the CCAA Semifinals for the second-straight year. They will face Cal State LA on Friday at 1:30 pm. Live links are on CSUSBathletics.com.
