LA JOLLA – In a match featured on ESPN 3, the No. 1 CSUSB Coyotes rolled to a 16-0 record with a 3-0 win over UC San Diego.
The Tritons pushed the Yotes 28-26 in set two, but CSUSB took set one 25-12 and set three 25-20. The individual highlight for CSUSB was Alexis Cardoza who finished with 20 kills, pushing her to 1002 career kills in under three seasons and making her the ninth member of the 1000 kill club at CSUSB.
Sascha Dominique added 10 kills, eight blocks, and hit .667 with no errors. The Yotes hit .263 and held UCSD to .050, dominating in blocks 11-6. Mehana Ma'a had 27 assists and Leilia To'omalatai added 12 digs.
"It felt good to win at UCSD as they are always tough at home," head coach Kim Cherniss said. "Alexis was on fire tonight, so determined on every swing, and her stat line showed it. Sascha Dominique set the tone early in the match either blocking or touching every swing the Tritons took. Mehana Ma'a set her best match of the season tonight."
