Coyotes Strike Early And Battle Back Late For Win

Scored game-winner in 66th minute

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes bounced back from a tough loss on Friday with an impressive 3-2 win over Stanislaus State at Premier Field on Sunday.

Ika Kvavilashvili scored a highlight reel goal slipping the ball behind him with a roll in the seventh minute off a slip-center pass from Danny Ortiz.  Ortiz himself scored his team-leading fifth of the year in the 31st minute on a penalty kick.

The Warriors got their own penalty kick goal in the 35th minute and were able to tie the match in the 57th minute with a one-touch volley into the net.

The Coyotes did not let this one slip away however, as Jorge Avila scored his first of the year on a beautiful combination play from Ortiz to Kvavilashvili to Fabian Roman to Avila and into the top right shelf for the game-winner.

"The Stanislaus goal early in the second half really put the pressure on us, but we challenged the guys at half time to keep their cool and stay on it," head coach Darren Leslie said.  "The guys were level-headed and they got us to the finish line with that maturity."

Jacob Huber anchored a solid defense with four saves for the Coyotes (6-4, 3-1 CCAA) who head out to Humboldt State next Friday for a 3 pm match.
