Ortiz's Four Points Leads Yotes To 3-0 Win

Shutout Humboldt State on the road

ARCATA, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes kept rolling through the CCAA season early on, as they collected a 3-0 win at Humboldt State on Friday.

Danny Ortiz had quite a day, picking up four points with a goal and two assists.  He scored in the 16th minute when he sprinted to the goal line and Cesar Figueroa set him up for the tap in.  He then sent a cross to Jeronimo Valdapena in the 55nd minute, who finished from the middle of the box.  His final assist came on the goal by Peter Arellano in the 69th minute.  It marked his sixth goal of the year and ninth and 10th assists.  He is currently the leader by a margin of seven in the CCAA with 22 points.

"Wins on the road are always tough in this conference and Humboldt is a notoriously difficult place to come to," head coach Darren Leslie said.  "With that in mind, we are obviously very pleased with the result, but we are under no illusion that we were perfect today.  If we are to be serious in our aspirations for a conference title, we need to be focused and in our rhythm for the entire 90 minutes, and that has to be our focus going into another tough game on Sunday at Sonoma State."

Jacob Huber had an impressive day in goal, making 11 saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season.  Both offenses were aggressive with each side taking 20 shots.

The Coyotes will look to finish the road trip strong on Sunday taking on Sonoma State at 11:30 am.  Live links are available at csusbathletics.com.
