CARSON, Calif. – The No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes finished a perfect 3-0 week as they swept CSU Dominguez Hills on Saturday night on the road.
Alexis Cardoza hit double-digit kills again with 12 to lead the team. Hailey Jackson added nine kills. As a team, the Coyotes had nine aces compared to just two for CSUDH. Sascha Dominique and Jackson had two each. Jackson hit .692 with no errors on the night and as a team CSUSB hit .250 while holding CSUDH to .139.
With the Coyotes leading 10-9 in set one, CSUSB rattled off eight-straight points to seize control of the set with two kills from Jackson in that stretch. CSUSB continued to roll from there and won 25-12. In the second set the Coyotes were actually trailing 5-8, but scored 11-straight points to grab a 16-8 edge, but CSUDH fought back to make it 23-21 Coyotes before CSUSB took the last two points to win 25-21. The Coyotes were able to build a quick five-point lead in set three and held it throughout to win 25-21.
"I am very pleased with our team's efforts tonight," head coach Kim Cherniss said. "It is not easy to come back after such an emotional win last night and play after a quick turnaround with the 5 pm start. Additionally, it was a long week with three matches against some very physical teams. Dominguez Hills plays very tenacious defense and it was very difficult to put balls down on them but I credit our team with continuing to get second and third opportunities during rallies and finishing them."
The Coyotes (16-1, 9-0 CCAA) are on the road again next week with UC San Diego on Friday at 7 pm.
