SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Coyotes suffered a tough-luck loss on Friday afternoon against Chico State at Premier Field, falling 2-1 with the game-winning goal coming in the 88th minute.
The Coyotes, who controlled possession through much of the match, scored their goal in the 62nd minute when Ika Kvavilashvili's corner kick bounced all the way to far post where Isaac Balderrama put it home for his first of the year.
The Wildcats were able to answer three minutes later as a corner kick resulted in a yellow-card foul in the box and a resulting penalty kick. The Coyotes lost some momentum from that point forward, but Danny Ortiz had a shot blocked in the 79th minute and Trevan Estrellado had a good look get saved by the keeper two minutes prior to the last Chico State goal. Ortiz got one last look with a minute left but it sailed wide.
It marked the first CCAA loss for the Coyotes (5-3, 2-1 CCAA) but they will look to get back to winning on Sunday against Stanislaus State at home at 2:00 pm. Live stats are available at csusbathletics.com.
