SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The No. 5 CSU San Bernardino Coyotes were able to finish sets better and finished off the UC San Diego Tritons, 3-1, on Saturday night in Coussoulis Arena.

All four sets were tight throughout, but CSUSB was able to take the match 25-23, 24-26, 25-20, 25-20.  Alexis Cardoza led with 20 kills, while Hailey Jackson had 13 and Sascha Dominique had 12.  Jayann DeHoog had another great night with 51 assists and Asia Clarke had 13 digs to fuel the offense.

"Our team did a great job counteracting a very tough UC San Diego squad tonight," head coach Kim Cherniss said.  "UC San Diego serves the ball with a lot of intensity and really put us on our heels throughout the match in tough situations.  Our team managed to regain their composure and take some really good swings out of system which allowed us to have enough offensive firepower to win the match."

The Coyotes hit .226 as a team while UCSD hit .194.  Cardoza hit .254 and Jackson hit .360.  The first two sets were close to the finish with each team holding the other off to take the two-point win.  A sneaky kill from Leilia To'omalatai and one from Jackson in the third set built a five-point lead the Coyotes would ride to the finish.  CSUSB took four of the last five points in set four with two kills from Jackson to clinch the match. 

The Coyotes (13-1, 6-0 CCAA) have a huge matchup with Cal Poly Pomona (13-1, 6-0 CCAA) on Wednesday night at 7 pm inside Coussoulis Arena in a battle atop the CCAA.  Live links are available at csusbathletics.com.
