TURLOCK, Calif. – The No. CSUSB Coyotes marched onto the CCAA Championship Semifinals on Thursday night with a 3-0 win over San Francisco State on the campus of Stanislaus State.
Freshly crowned CCAA Player of the Year Alexis Cardoza was in full force with 16 kills, as Sascha Dominique added seven and Asia Clarke adding six in support. The Coyotes led in digs, 68-61, as neither team hit over .200.
A kill from Cardoza stretched the lead out to 18-13 in the first set and CSUSB won 25-21. An ace from Hannah Barrett helped build a 12-7 lead in set two, but SFSU closed the gap before a block from Dominique and Mikaela Grove helped secure the 25-23 win. A kill from Grove in set three helped extend a three-point lead at 19-16 which CSUSB used to win 25-22.
Clarked added 11 digs and Cardoza had 10, with Jayann DeHoog dishing 33 assists.
"I am proud of our team for keeping our composure and focusing on the fundamental things that make us consistently successful," head coach Kim Cherniss said.
