MONTEREY, Calif. – The No. 1 CSU San Bernardino Coyotes wrapped up the CCAA Regular-Season Championship and secured the number one seed at the CCAA Championships with a 3-0 win over CSU Monterey Bay on Saturday night.
CCAA Player of the Week Alexis Cardoza led the Coyotes with 10 kills and Hailey Jackson added nine. Sascha Dominique had eight kills hitting .500. The Coyotes dominated at the net, seven blocks to three, with four coming from Dominique. The Coyotes hit .290 but held CSUMB to .093.
"I am very proud of this team for finishing the regular season with the best record in the conference," head coach Kim Cherniss said. "It's a long, hard schedule and these girls consistently performed at the top of the conference from the beginning. Now we turn our thoughts towards the CCAA Tournament and hope to bring home another banner to put on the wall."
Monterey Bay hung within three to four points throughout the first set, but CSUSB finished on a three-point run with two kills coming from Dominique to win 25-19. The Coyotes built a 10-point lead in set two with two three-point runs, with Jackson highlighting the second one, to win 25-17. CSUSB built a 10-point lead in set three with methodical two-point runs to win 25-19. They recorded a 62 percent sideout percentage on the match.
The Coyotes (23-2, 16-1 CCAA) will be the number one seed in the CCAA Tournament starting on Thursday, November 8 in Turlock, Calif.
